A 3-day RED retreat was held from 22 to 24 May 2015 at BCDM Rajendrapur. Inaugurated by Dr. Ahmed Mushtaque Raza Chowdhury, vice-chairperson and interim executive director, BRAC, the introductory session began with a video message from Sir Fazle Hasan Abed. The chairperson strongly emphasized the contribution of the research and evaluation division for the last 40 years.
On the second day of the retreat, Dr AMR Chowdhury highlighted the strategy and vision of RED and Dr Mahabub Hossain highlighted on context setting and how RED could become more proactive. The RED activity report for 2013-15 was presented by Mr. Samir Ranjan Nath. Dr Mahfuzar Rahman delivered the goals and activities of the retreat. Prof. Abdul Bayes, former Vice-Chancellor, Jahangirnagar University was present at the retreat. The different sessions of retreat were facilitated by Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, former Deputy Executive director of BRAC.
The retreat was devoted to identifying and devolving the strengths and weaknesses of RED and also included discussions on expectation of RED, how well RED is complementing different programmes of BRAC and the way forward for RED. Important events such as the debate on quantitative vs. qualitative received wide applause from the participants including discussions from Ms. Anna Minj, director, IDP and CEP, Dr. Md. Akramul Islam, director, WASH, TB, Malaria and DECC, Dr. Mohammad Raisul Haque, HNPP programme, Dr. Md. Sirajul Islam, agriculture & food security programme and Mr. Sudhir Chandra Nath, seed & agro enterprise programme and Mr. Profulla Chandra Barman, education programme. The retreat concluded with remarks from Dr. Ahmed Mushtaque Chowdhury, vice-chairperson, and interim executive director, BRAC.
