Flash flood’17 impacts on different sectors in haor area of Bangladesh
The recent flash flood’17 in the north-east region which was triggered by heavy rainfall has breached parts of embankments and resulted in inundation of enormous haor areas. This flash flood has not only damaged boro crop, which is the only seasonal rice crop that farmers of haor area grow annually but also has affected livelihoods of haor dwellers. The aim of the study is to measure the impacts of flood on different sectors and economic groups. One of the study objectives is to understand the effectiveness of government as well as BRAC’s support during last flash flood. This study will cover 60 villages of 30 unions under 6 districts, and a total of 1,800 households. Both quantitative and qualitative methods will be employed in the study. It is expected that this study will also help to identify some emergency services important for the affected people during any humanitarian crisis. Findings from the study will be disseminated at local or national level for policy uptake.
